Mount Sutro School is built on the belief that young children’s experiences in school should be full of joy, cultivating a lifetime love of learning. Discoveries are made through all of a child’s senses, and we seek to engage and encourage all their sensory explorations. Our hope is to provide experiences that ignite passion for the world that surrounds them.
Relationships are the foundation on which every idea, thought, and theory is based. Mount Sutro School strives to provide children and families with a stable and nurturing environment. The school views its role with children and families as reciprocal, partnering to build programs and curriculum that is meaningful and relevant to the their interests.
Mount Sutro School began in 2012 as a part-day enrichment program for young children aged 18 months to 2.5 years. In 2013 the program continued on with families for another year, adding a parent-participation component with 2.5 to 3.5-year-olds. In the fall of 2014, the children at Mount Sutro School graduated on to larger preschool environments.
In January 2015, Mount Sutro School began Foundations Playgroup, a program developed for infants/toddlers and their parents to support early development and learning during the critical first years of a child’s life. Wanting to combine parent educational opportunities and curriculum that celebrates young children’s capabilities, Mount Sutro School reopened in the fall of 2015 as a parent participation program for toddlers and two-year-olds and continued with continuity of care model, cycling with the same group of 2.5 to 3.5-year-olds for 2016-2017 school year. In the Summer of 2017, Mount Sutro School took a hiatus as the director and her family moved to Spain. In the Fall of 2021, the school once again opened its doors to children.
